An Illness, Not Willfulness -- ADHD In Kids |
|
Your son is running through the house at 92 miles per hour (you've clocked him with a State Patrol radar gun) and won't stop. Yes, he has ADHD, you know this, but you've asked and then told him to stop, and you could really care less about ADHD. You want this child to BE STILL. In these circumstances it's easy to think your ADDHD child is being willful and stubborn. That really is probably not the case. Remember that ADHD comes with impulse control as a main component, and kids with ADHD sometimes just can't control themselves. What to do when your ADHD child seems to be willfully disobeying you? Diagnosing Learning Disabilities: Is Your Child Exhibiting ADHD Characteristics? |
|
By Tess Thompson Diagnosing a learning disability or a medical condition like ADHD can be complicated and inexact. In the case of ADHD, many of the telltale symptoms are also often symptoms of regular childhood behavior -- restlessness, rowdiness, and a tendency to be easily distracted. ADHD is treated differently from learning disabilities because it is thought to be different in nature. While most learning disabilities can be diagnosed through specific testing, ADHD requires a more subtle diagnosis through comprehensive evaluation. A learning disability is generally caused by a neurological difference in the brain structure of a child that makes it difficult for him or... |

Causes of ADHD
Author:
Kristy Annely
ADHD is an acronym which stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is a chronic, neurologically-based syndrome and is mostly found in boys. Several experts consider ADHD as a form of brain damage. ADHD sufferers generally exhibit three behavioral characteristics. These include hyperactivity, distractibility and impulsivity. Hyperactivity is the feeling of overwhelming restlessness that disallows sufferers to remain calm. Distractibility curbs the ability to complete simple tasks by sidetracking sufferers with irrelevant things. Impulsivity is the inability of patients to stop blurting out inappropriate things. Even though these types of behavior can be found in a lot of people, ADHD sufferers have them in the extreme. These behaviors might cause problems in their day-to-day lives. Causes The main cause of ADHD is still relatively unknown. Many experts believe that genetics may play a factor in its development. In the past, a lot of experts believed that a diet rich in sugar, preservatives and artificial flavorings causes ADHD. However, recent findings have concluded that a person's diet has no bearing on the progression of ADHD. Studies have shown that the main cause of this disorder is having a less than normal amount of activity in the part of the brain that controls attention. A child with ADHD is usually diagnosed by the age of seven and usually suffers from some form of learning disability as well. Treatment Once diagnosed, ADHD is typically easy to remedy. The treatment usually consists of counseling, behavioral therapy, and medication. Medication is necessary to correct the chemical imbalance that is present in the brain. The symptoms of ADHD will usually decrease as the child grows older. Any trace of ADHD usually disappears by the end of adolescence. However, there has been an increase in the number of cases where the symptoms of ADHD persisted until adulthood. ADHD provides detailed information on ADHD, ADHD Treatment, Children with ADHD, ADHD Symptoms and more. ADHD is affiliated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

ADHD Can Be Identified and Treated Early |
|
There are many children around the world suffering from ADHD and the crazy thing is that most parents have no idea what ADHD is or even how to treat it. Most parents that have children dealing with ADHD pass off the symptoms as just bad behavior, and this is a real shame. Children that have ADHD display symptoms that are not that easy to detect unless you know what you are looking for. ADHD can be diagnosed by a doctor and that is exactly where a parent should take their child to see if their negative behavior is caused by ADHD. Like I said many of the symptoms of ADHD are passed of as bad behavior and the child is usually punished instead of treated as they should be. Right now you should be asking yourself what the symptoms of ADHD are so that you can keep an eye out for them in your child. The major symptoms of ADHD are impulsiveness, lack of attention and hyperactivity. These start out pretty subtle so keep a good lookout. A child suffering from hyperactivity is usually uneasy, fidgety and squirmy. Difficulty standing in lunch lines and other types of lines could be hyperactive. This is not to say that all children who hate lines have ADHD. If that were so then nobody would be free from hyperactivity. These are just signs for you to look at and take to your qualified family doctor for diagnosis. Inattention is another symptom of ADHD which is when a child is easily distracted by sounds or sights that have nothing to do with what they are doing at the time. Another sing of inattention is a child that skips form task to task without completing any of them prior to moving on. If you think that you child may have ADHD then do not wait or pass it off as something else. It is nothing to be ashamed of if your child has it but if they do and you do nothing... |
