Important Information On ADHD
Author:
Joshua Wills
ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This is a rather common disease that causes people to be over hyper and get easily distracted.
In order to make a diagnosis of ADHD you must go to a trained doctor who is aware of how to detect it. A lot of the symptoms that people get with ADHD are parts of other diseases and disorders.
Some people believe that ADHD is more of a problem with the mind that you just have to learn to get over. While there is usually mental issues that go along with having ADHD it isnt a disease you can just decide to get over one day.
Some common symptoms of ADHD include:
Memory loss and forgetting where you put something or what exactly a page in a book said. This hurts school kids a lot when they forget what they studied for a test.
Being very hyper and not being able to sit still or be quiet.
Not listening to a speaker or ignoring someone when they are trying to talk with you.
One cure to ADHD is to be on a good diet. Being in shape and healthy will help keep you from being effected as much by ADHD and can help prevent it before it starts. There are also a lot of various drugs that can be taken that are made specifically to treat ADHD patients.
Another interesting cure is one on one coaching. Someone will help talk the patient through their life and help them overcome the obstacles that the ADHD throws in their way.
If you know someone who has ADHD recommend that they get it treated as soon as possible. While the disease usually doesnt kill people it can greatly disrupt normal living and make life miserable for the person with ADHD.

All throughout his or her education, the ADHD child has learn strategies for learning and behavior that can also be effective in college. Plus, services for the ADHD individual do not end at high school graduation. Section 504 issued by the Office of Civil Rights requires that all college institutions receiving federal funding accommodate students with disabilities, including ADHD. If ADHD can be demonstrated to interfere with the student's learning disabilities, then the ADHD affected college student is eligible for educational assistance including tutoring and even extended or distraction free accommodation for testing. There are even scholarships available for students with ADHD. Many of the scholarships are mainly posted as those open for students with disabilities, but ADHD can be considered a disability for those students' whose learning ability is impaired by the disorder. There are a number of scholarship websites and books that can help the student locate the scholarships available and assist in the application process. ADHD can also be beneficial to college students, because the disorder often provides them with more energy and creativity in the university setting. It is however, very important for the ADHD student to continue to use the learning and structural mechanisms that proved helpful before. Keeping a schedule posted and writing down assignments and due dates are imperative to being successful in college. On the other hand, the ability to be creative and more individual is often rewarded in the higher education setting, so the ADHD affected student may also receive more praise... |
